All You Need is Love

Scripture-- 1 Corinthians 13-1 Corinthians 15

Observation:  Our college group was named for 1 Corinthians 13:13, "Faith, hope and love abide and the greatest of these is love."  I hope that we always follow this verse!

What a powerful chapter describing love.  Reminding us that love is an action--something we DO not something we just feel.

Application:  Which aspect of love described in Chapter 13 most appeals to you?  What part most challenges you?  The introduction always reminds me that that I can do so many good things, but if I do them without love they mean nothing.  I pray that what abides--is love.  In my life and yours!

Prayer:  God of Love.  Let me love like you.  Let me be all that you'd have me be. Thank you for loving me.  Let me spread a piece of that love.  Amen.

My mind was spinning a bit reading chapter 15... and having trouble focusing, but I zeroed in on the last verse of today's scripture... Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Right now, I feel that being a momma is a huge part of my "work" and "labor" as a Christian. I pray constantly that I am leading Ansley in the way of the Lord. Some days, being a momma is hard work, but this verse is encouraging. I used to be more involved in church ministry, but I got burnt out because I didn't really feel like I was in the right place. I haven't been, but this verse also found a way to remind me to pray for the right place for me in the church! I pray that God will show me the way!

I think I can be kind and rarely boast or feel envy. Sometimes I think I protect and trust too much, but I think my weaknesses are not enough patience and keeping records of wrongs.
I also like the part of using the gifts that strengthen, encourage and comfort, those that build up the church. Sounds like they were using the gift of tongues to show off in Corinth. And in the church today we have different kinds of tongues that wag and hurt more than build up.

I believe that because we are all made in God's image, we are wired to love. Unfortunately since we are sinning humans, we can never experience 100% pure perfect love described here. This world makes us cynical and "on guard" which I feel causes us to miss many opportunities to love those who need it most. It can also cause us to reject the love that others are trying to show us.
I was especially convicted by 15:34. "Awake to righteousness, and so not sin. For some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame." God help me tell others about you. Help me speak clearly so they can understand the hugeness of your love and your grace.
