Death to Sin

Scripture:  Romans 4-Romans 6

Observation:  Here comes the good parts!!  We are justified through faith not works! Not because of who we were born to, who we are, but through faith.  5:8 hit me, "But God shows God's love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!"  But then Paul didn't leave that alone.  See 6:1-2, "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!  How can we died in sin still live in it!"

Application:  You are good enough.  Jesus died to prove that to you.  You don't have to earn your place in heaven.  Jesus earned it for you.  But that doesn't mean, you should stay in your own ways.  Each day, each moment, you are a new creation in Christ.  This means, that sin has died.  Don't stay in your old ways--Christ has bigger better plans!  Be the new person Christ wants.  Not because you have to, because its your prize.  Because Christ is helping you through his love.  Because you are a new creation.

Prayer:  Christ, our Lord and Savior, thank you for your sacrifice.  Thank you for saving us. Bless us to live a life worthy of your sacrifice.  Not because we have to, but because its what you are helping us do, every day.  We love you! Amen.

Blessings!
Pastor Emily

Chapter 6 really opened up to me today... am I trying to fight to live in the world of death, or I am really living in the resurrection of Christ?

"In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." 6:11

6:22-23 "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Christ died so that I could LIVE... with the JOY and HOPE and PROMISE of eternity!!

God of LIFE, thank you for giving me the gift of true life! I am filled with joy knowing you took my sin and gave me life. Such an unequal and undeserving trade, but you did it because you love me. Today, I am rejoicing in live! May I bask in this knowledge everyday!

Raise me to new life, Oh Lord. Kill my sinful nature and show me how to be righteous and how to do the right thing. Pour God's love into my heart!

Paul shows us in these verses that all this is possible if we have faith!

Several times in Chapter 5 we are reminded that God's gift of Jesus was a FREE gift!! The law gives us a choice - do right or wrong. Since we are not perfect, we will inevitably choose wrong. But because of the FREE gift of Jesus we are justified by grace through faith. Praise God for that! God I want to walk in the newness of life and be freed from sin. Because death is the wage (pay) for sin, but your GIFT (free!) is eternal life in Jesus.
