Who is the greatest?

Scripture:  Luke 7-Luke 9

Observation
9:43 "Everyone was overwhelmed by God's greatness"
9:46 "An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest".

They saw God's greatness in the miracles.  They were overwhelmed by God's power.  Then just a couple verses later they tried to put themselves on the same place as God.  Just a little lower than Christ.

Application:  Too often I want to be the greatest.  But I am only the greatest when I let Christ be Lord.  When I give up control.  When I let myself and others be overwhelmed by God's Greatness.  Have you been overwhelmed by God's greatness today?

Prayer:  O Great God!  I am amazed by you.  Let me today surrender myself to all that you are.  So I can be complete in you.  Let me be weak so you can be strong.  Let me be small so you can be large.  Let me be dark so your light may shine.  In your almighty name.  Amen.

Blessings!

Just yesterday, I posted a blog that discussed "who was the greatest". It's entitled "One Who Serves", and you can check it out at http://marthaorlando.blogspot.com.

Today, the parable of the sower stuck out. I have been working on a herb garden for three years now. The first year, I bought a few seeds and used this special little kit to sprout the herbs. It didn't work out so well. So, the second year, I just bought small herb plants from Home Depot to plant. This year, I tried seeds again, but I put the seeds in soil instead of the special dirt pellets in the kit. It worked out much better this year!

By starting some of the herbs from seeds, I got to see the different growing patters. My arugula sprouted first and quickly grew into a usable plant. The mint took a few tries to finally get some sprouts. It didn't want to get started, but once it did, it took off! The oregano started off as a tiny sprout, and it isn't much bigger now. It's slower, but growing.

God has different growing patterns for everyone! The seeds that were sowed in my life didn't sprout quickly... it took years. I'm thankful God doesn't just need the fast and furious growing believers. He will take the slower growing and late blooming ones too!

Today I was amazed at the faith and humility of the centurion. Here is a guy who never met Jesus in person, but had "heard about Him", who sent others on his behalf to plead to Jesus for a miracle. Not even for himself but for his beloved servant. He believed that all it would take was a word from Jesus to heal the servant. We are told that even Jesus marveled at his faith.

While the disciples were trying to decide who was the greatest, and John the Baptist even appeared to question if Jesus was "the One", the centurion was humble and did not doubt. He simply BELIEVED.

I did come away from this reading with a question. I have always wondered why Jesus tells some people to go and tell everyone about the miracle they have received, but others he commands that they tell no one?

I am thankful that God loves me even though I am a sinner that still has questions.
